Charles William “Charlie” Bachman III is an American computer scientist, who spent his entire career as an industrial researcher, developer, and manager rather than in academia.
Bachman is particularly known for his work in the early development of database management systems. His techniques of layered architecture include his namesake Bachman diagrams.
Charlie was presented the National Medal of Honor Technology by Barack Obama in November 2014 and the ACM Turing Award in November 1973.
